June to October is generally drier across much of northern Tanzania, with thinner vegetation and popular wildlife areas becoming busier. November and December often bring shorter rains, though patterns vary. January and February can offer green landscapes and important calving activity in the southern Serengeti ecosystem. The longer rains commonly influence travel from March into May.

The Great Migration is a moving natural cycle, not a scheduled event. Herd location and river-crossing opportunities depend on rainfall and grazing, so no responsible operator can guarantee an exact sighting.

Packing

Pack for layers, dust and limited space.

Choose comfortable neutral clothing, a warm layer for early drives, a light rain shell, sun protection and closed walking shoes. Bring prescribed medicine in original packaging, binoculars if preferred, charging equipment and soft-sided luggage where small aircraft are part of the route.

Bright camouflage-style clothing may be inappropriate or restricted in some contexts. Drone use and professional filming can require permits. Ask before packing specialised equipment.
